Choosing the ideal type of motor oil for your car can rely on a multitude of factors. Some are fixed in your car manufacturer’s designations and your car’s engine type. Other factors are external and include things like your overall driving habits, the climate of the area you live in, or the age of your engine.

The four types of motor oil are sectioned into four varieties— synthetic oil, synthetic blends, conventional oil, and high mileage oil.

SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL

Fully synthetic motor oil is great for vehicles that demand a high level of lubrication and peak level performance. This type of oil supplies substantial resistance to oxidation and thermal breakdown, high levels of viscosity, and assists in fighting against oil sludge.

Synthetic blends are becoming more and more popular among today’s savvy drivers because they help make the transition from conventional to synthetic motor oil smoother.

Additionally, it’s a great middle-of-the-road option for the drivers who want the added benefits and protection of synthetic oil, but at a more reasonable price tag.

CONVENTIONAL OIL

Conventional oil is typically recommended for vehicles with straightforward engine designs and drivers who drive conservatively.

This is the most commonly used type of motor oil, can be formulated in a wide range of viscosity grades and quality levels.

HIGH-MILEAGE MOTOR OIL

High-mileage oil is specifically formulated for vehicles with over 75,000 miles.

This type of oil helps minimize oil burn-off and leaks, especially in older engine models.
